Answers about traditional matches, birth-year boundaries and what this free calculator can show.
Who is my Chinese zodiac sign most compatible with?
Find your animal’s row in the chart above: its Six Harmony partner and its Half Trine partners are the matches tradition reads as closest. A favourable year-branch label does not establish that two particular people will get along.
Which Chinese zodiac signs are least compatible?
The six opposite pairs are Rat–Horse, Ox–Goat, Tiger–Monkey, Rabbit–Rooster, Dragon–Dog and Snake–Pig. They are called Clashes. OpenFate shows the relation without declaring these the worst couples or predicting separation.
Are two people with the same Chinese zodiac sign compatible?
Same-sign pairs share a Year Branch, which is read as caring about the same things and moving at the same pace. Dragon, Horse, Rooster and Pig also receive a Self-punishment label under this rule set. Neither label decides whether a couple should date or marry.
How accurate is Chinese zodiac compatibility?
It has not been shown to predict personality or relationship outcomes. The pairing rules can be checked and reproduced, which makes a result consistent, not predictive. Use it as traditional cultural material and a conversation prompt.
Can I check Chinese zodiac compatibility by birth year?
Yes. Each animal returns every 12 years, and every pair page lists both signs’ birth years from 1936 to 2031. The calculator itself asks for the animals, not dates. If you were born in January or early February, check your BaZi Year Pillar first, because the BaZi year changes at Li Chun. Check your BaZi Year Pillar
Is this zodiac compatibility calculator free?
Yes. Both the one-sign lookup and two-sign comparison are free and require no login. Full BaZi readings are separate features with their own access and pricing.
Can I compare family members or business partners?
Yes. The branch-pair rules do not change with the relationship role. Use the interpretation with your own context, and do not use zodiac signs to judge someone’s parenting, job suitability or trustworthiness.
Ox man with a Snake woman vs. Snake man with an Ox woman: any difference?
Not at the zodiac level. Harmony, Clash, punishment, and Harm all come from the two birth-year branches, so the relationship is the same whichever of you is the man. Pages that split “Ox man, Snake woman” from “Ox woman, Snake man” are usually layering traditional expectations of husbands and wives on top. What really differs from person to person is the Day Pillar and Spouse Palace in a Bazi chart, which only full birthdays can show.
Are 3- and 6-year age gaps really bad luck?
Part of this old belief can actually be worked out. Two signs born 6 years apart are always a Clash. Of the twelve combinations 3 (or 9) years apart, ten carry a punishment, Harm, or Break; among them, Tiger–Pig and Snake–Monkey are also Six Harmony, while Dragon–Goat and Horse–Rooster have no harmony or clash at all. On the other hand, two signs 4 (or 8) years apart always come from the same trine. An age gap just happens to line up with a particular sign relationship, so look at the pair you actually are; every pair’s reading includes an age-gap guide.
Should we plan a baby’s birth year to complete a trine with ours?
Some families really do this. An Ox and Snake couple, for example, might wait for a Rooster year to complete the Snake–Rooster–Ox trine. A trine means heading the same way, so it’s traditionally a good sign, but a child’s sign is only their birth-year branch, and the bond between parent and child is built day by day. If you were already planning and it happens to line up, that’s a nice bonus. There’s no need to move your plans earlier or later for a sign; being ready in health, work, and finances matters more.
Is an Ox born in 1985 the same as one born in 1997?
For zodiac compatibility, yes: only the year branch counts, and both are Chou, the Ox. Articles on “which Ox year goes best with which Snake year” usually add the year’s heavenly stem and its nayin element on top. For example, 1985 is Yi Chou, a Wood Ox, and 1997 is Ding Chou, a Fire Ox, and their nayin differ. That’s a separate layer of the Bazi Year Pillar; for a fuller picture, put both birthdays into Bazi charts and look at the Day Pillar and Spouse Palace.
