How to Read Vedic Astrology Compatibility
A Vedic compatibility chart is a comparison of two calculated sidereal birth charts. It can organize traditional relationship themes, but it cannot prove that a marriage will succeed, fail, or happen at a particular time.
OpenFate keeps the calculation layer visible. The score, dosha flags, exceptions, overlays, significators, and active dasha periods come from the engine; AI may explain those facts but cannot recalculate either chart or fill missing data.
1. Start with the eight Ashtakoota kootas
Guna Milan compares the two Moon positions through Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot, and Nadi. When all eight are reliable, their maximum is 36 points. The traditional bands used here are below 18 challenging, 18–24 acceptable, 25–32 good, and 33–36 excellent; they are labels within the tradition, not measured odds of marital success.
2. Read the components before the total
Two couples can receive the same total for different reasons. The table therefore shows each koota, the points available, the points earned, and whether the input was stable enough to score. Nadi and Bhakoot flags should be read with their calculated pariharas rather than treated as automatic rejection rules.
3. Check Mangal, Rajju, Vedha, and chart context separately
Mangal Dosha is checked from Lagna, Moon, and Venus. The engine then reports applicable pariharas such as mutual dosha, Mars dignity, Jupiter aspect, yogakaraka status, or a partner-Saturn softening condition. Rajju and Vedha are separate South Indian nakshatra checks and do not add to or subtract from the 36-point score.
When the birth data supports them, whole-sign overlays and Darakaraka comparison add chart context that a Moon-only score cannot contain.
4. Treat uncertain birth time as a calculation boundary
An unknown or approximate time can change the Moon sign or nakshatra, Lagna, houses, and timing layers. OpenFate tests whether each required Moon sign or nakshatra remains stable. It scores surviving kootas, leaves unstable ones unscored, and avoids presenting a partial sum as the classical 36-point total. Time-dependent overlays, Darakaraka houses, and paired dasha data are shown only where the recorded inputs support them.
5. Use dasha timing as context, not a prediction
The paired Vimshottari view places the active maha-dasha and antar-dasha periods side by side. It does not label a period as supportive or harmful and does not predict a wedding, breakup, or outcome. Use the chart to frame questions, then base real relationship decisions on communication, conduct, consent, safety, and qualified professional advice where needed.
What does kundli matching actually compare?
The Vedic astrology comparison uses the two Jyotish charts, including Moon signs and nakshatras, Lagna and house relationships, planetary condition, and Vimshottari dasha timing. Guna Milan and Mangal Dosha are marriage-specific layers, not universal scores for every family, friendship, or workplace relationship.
For marriage, the useful questions concern day-to-day responsibility, money, family expectations, intimacy and consent, conflict repair, and whether long-term commitments are matched by behavior.
- Confirm both Moon positions, nakshatras, Lagnas, and birth-time reliability before using time-dependent factors.
- For marriage, read the eight Ashtakoota factors, the 36-guna total, Nadi and Bhakoot flags, and Mangal Dosha alongside the full charts.
- For friendship, family, or work, prioritize the relevant houses, planetary relationships, and dasha overlap instead of repurposing a marriage threshold.
How should you use kundli matching in a marriage decision?
Once the chart evidence is clear, bring it back to observable choices in the marriage decision.
Treat symbolic patterns as prompts for a conversation, not proof of motives, compatibility, safety, competence, or future outcomes. Decisions should rest on consent, conduct, records, and appropriate professional advice.
- Are responsibilities, finances, and family boundaries explicit?
- Can both people disagree, repair harm, and change a pattern safely?
- Do promises about commitment, intimacy, and shared plans match repeated actions?
