Vedic Compatibility (Kundli Matching) Method: What Is Calculated and Checked

How OpenFate matches two Vedic charts: the classical eight-koota Guna Milan out of 36, Nadi and Bhakoot doshas with their cancellations, Mangal dosha, Rajju and Vedha, and paired dasha timing.

Overview

Both sidereal charts are calculated first. The engine then applies the classical Ashtakoota comparison of the two Moons and the dosha checks, and records paired dasha periods. The only score in the report is the classical Guna Milan total out of 36.

What is calculated

  • Ashtakoota: the eight kootas (Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot, Nadi) from the two Moons’ nakshatras and signs, and their total out of 36.
  • Nadi and Bhakoot doshas, with the classical cancellation conditions that apply.
  • Mangal dosha from Mars placements, with its cancellations, plus the Rajju and Vedha checks.
  • Chart overlays, each person’s Darakaraka and how it relates to the other chart, and timing windows from both people’s current dasha periods.

Fixed conventions and inputs

  • Lahiri ayanamsa and the mean lunar node are used for both charts; the settings of a single Vedic reading are not applied here.
  • Gana points follow one fixed convention (symmetric modern table).
  • When a birth time is uncertain, kootas that depend on an uncertain Moon position are suppressed rather than guessed.

How the report is written and checked

  • The model receives the calculated kootas, doshas and timing and writes the explanation; the 36-point total is cited as a classical count, never turned into a percentage.
  • Before a report is saved, every check runs: contradictions of a Darakaraka’s identity or direction block the report, and invented scores, birth-time claims, nakshatra pada labels, and timing are all checked.
  • A Gana dosha cannot be described as softened or cancelled, because the engine computes no Gana cancellation, and a whole-match grade cannot exceed the classical band of the Guna Milan total. Tara is reported as the two directional counts, without saying which person feels the ease, because schools read that differently.
  • Every compatibility report is also held to shared limits: unsupported claims of a rare bond, a whole-match grade above the classical band, and a report cut off before its last section are never saved. The other person’s feelings, fears and view of you are written only as chart tendencies to check in real life, and the two of you are never compared with other couples. If a draft fails only on such wording, top-degree words are toned down in place, sentences that state the other person’s inner life as fact are removed (Chinese and English reports), and the report is checked again.

A separately written replay, sharing no code with OpenFate’s engine, recalculates all eight kootas, the total out of 36, the classical band and the Nadi and Bhakoot dosha flags for every combination of the two Moons’ 108 nakshatra padas in both gender directions: 23,328 pairings in total.

Under OpenFate’s declared conventions, 23,328 of 23,328 pairings match on every koota, the total, the band and both doshas. Sources disagree on the Gana points for two cross pairs (Deva–Rakshasa and Manushya–Rakshasa); under the cited alternative, 10,368 pairings change by one point and 926 change classical band. The record lists the sources for both assignments.

This checks the Ashtakoota arithmetic and tables from the Moon positions, observed on 2026-09-25. It does not test Mangal dosha, cancellations, Rajju and Vedha, dasha timing, the Moon calculation itself, or any interpretation. OpenFate performed this comparison. The downloadable record is a summary; implementation and full execution fixtures remain private. This is not third-party certification or a public replay kit.

Concepts in the OpenFate Wiki

Before you buy

  • Both birth records are confirmed on a free preview before anything is charged.
  • A complete report uses 65 credits. The credits are reserved when generation starts and returned automatically if the report cannot be completed.
  • The saved report keeps the calculated facts it was written from, so later questions in the report chat read the same facts.

Limits

  • A Guna Milan total is a traditional screening count, not a measure of how well two people will get along.
  • Dosha cancellation rules differ between traditions; the page names the ones applied.
