What Is Shukuyo Compatibility?
Shukuyo compatibility compares two birth mansions in the Japanese 27-mansion system. OpenFate derives both mansions from the recorded birth dates, assigns one of six relationship families, preserves both directional roles, and shows a near, middle, or far symbolic distance only when that family defines one.

How to Read a Japanese 27-Mansion Compatibility Result
A useful Shukuyo result has four separate layers: both birth mansions, one relationship family, two directional roles, and an optional distance band. Removing any layer can make the result sound simpler than the underlying table.
OpenFate calculates those facts before any narrative is written. The free page exposes the deterministic layer so a paid interpretation cannot rewrite the dates, mansions, family, direction, or distance.
Start With Both Birth Mansions
Each recorded Gregorian date is converted under the same JST old-calendar policy. The old-calendar month and day then determine one mansion in the canonical 27-mansion cycle.
Read the Six Families as Categories, Not Rankings
The family names preserve traditional vocabulary, but they do not create a best-to-worst ladder. The same family may raise different questions in marriage, friendship, family, or work.

Keep A → B and B → A Separate
Direction describes the role assigned from one mansion toward the other. A shared family such as 安壞 still contains an 安 side and a 壞 side, so swapping the people changes the directional statement even though the family remains the same.
Treat Distance as Symbolic
Near, middle, and far describe spacing in the mansion cycle, not miles, living arrangements, or emotional closeness. The engine shows distance only for families whose table defines it; 命 and 業胎 return no band.
Know Which Calculation Policy You Are Comparing
OpenFate uses a disclosed, frozen Japanese old-calendar convention anchored to JST civil dates and a fixed 27-mansion order. A result from a 28-mansion table, a different time zone, or an astronomical Moon-longitude method is not automatically equivalent.
Use the Result Without Turning It Into Fate
The relationship family can organize questions about support, friction, communication, and boundaries. It cannot diagnose either person, reveal private feelings, replace evidence of conduct, or guarantee that a relationship will last.

Does Shukuyo compatibility need a birth time or place?
No. This calculation uses each recorded Gregorian birth date only. It does not ask for a time, city, gender, or hidden 3 a.m. rollover.
Are Sukuyo and Shukuyo the same thing?
Yes. Shukuyo is the common English romanization; OpenFate also uses Sukuyo as its product spelling. Both refer here to the Japanese 27-mansion method, not Vedic Nakshatra matching or Western synastry.
What are the six Shukuyo relationship families?
They are Life (命), Karma–Gestation (業胎), Prosperity–Affinity (榮親), Friendship–Decline (友衰), Stability–Disruption (安壞), and Risk–Achievement (危成).
Why can A → B differ from B → A?
Most families contain two directional roles. Reversing the viewing direction swaps who holds which role, so the calculator keeps both results instead of flattening them into one label.
Does near, middle, or far mean geographic distance?
No. It is a symbolic separation inside the Sukuyo mansion cycle. Life and Karma–Gestation do not receive a distance band in this method.
Why does OpenFate use 27 mansions instead of 28?
This feature follows the Japanese Sukuyo 27-mansion cycle used by its relationship table. It does not silently mix that table with a Chinese 28-mansion or Vedic Nakshatra calculation.
Why can different Shukuyo sites give different mansions?
Sites may use different 27/28-mansion tables, calendar conversions, time zones, leap-month rules, or date boundaries. OpenFate discloses its fixed JST old-calendar convention so the result can be traced.
Which Shukuyo relationship is best?
There is no universal best family. A traditional label can frame patterns to observe, but it cannot prove love, safety, betrayal, marriage, or a future outcome. Behavior, consent, and real circumstances come first.
