In other kinds of relationships
- As a couple
- Life is quiet and tasteful, you each have your own space, and you’re neither clingy nor combative. That bit of mystery actually keeps things fresh. The one hazard: both Snakes speak only once they’ve thought everything through, so big decisions often get made alone and then announced. Try picking one day a year to swap letters, each writing down the one big thing you most want to do next. Writing is easier than talking, and you don’t have to wait until you’ve figured it all out.
- As family or friends
- When Snake parents raise a Snake child, the parents can tell when something’s on the child’s mind, and the child knows they can tell, yet nobody speaks first. A parent can open with some small thing that happened to them that day; the car ride to or from school is the easiest place to talk. As coworkers or friends, two Snakes are often the quietest in the group chat and the most interesting in private messages.
- As coworkers or partners
- Two Snakes managing an investment or a long-term project together are very steady: you think long-term, keep your nerve, and don’t get rattled by short-term swings. You stall when someone has to be the public face. Presenting, or making the ask with a client, each of you would rather the other go, so good ideas often go unspoken. Take turns: on this project one Snake does the analysis and the other presents, and on the next you switch.
What you may have read
Verdicts on two Snakes are all over the place. Some English-language sites flatly say to avoid it; others say two Snakes run hot and cold and get jealous, but can go the distance once they learn to trust. Chinese-language sites mostly settle somewhere in the middle.
How we read it“Avoid” is much too strong. Sharing a sign means sharing an element, and the only branches tradition says turn against themselves are Dragon, Horse, Rooster, and Pig. The Snake isn’t one of them, so two Snakes are simply more of the same. The jealousy point does ring true; it’s just that two Snakes don’t fight, they both stew. When you’ve been deep in conversation at a party, make a point of drifting back to sit beside the other Snake for a bit. That does more than any explanation at home.
